Publication Initial Ideas

Since my campaign consists of 4 different areas that merge together to create the bigger issue (the effects of social media), there are a lot of areas that need covering in order to communicate my message. The posters and additional elements that I may create such as stickers, tote bags/t-shirts will aim to communicate the message through a bold aesthetic and get straight to the point.

However, I have a lot of research and areas which would need covering so I have decided that I will create a publication as one of my main deliverables. I am also interested in publication design in general so this will be really enjoyable to design.

The publication will aim to give a brief introduction into the issue, then go into depth about each of the 4 areas within the issue and end with how to overcome these issues/the alternative...the publication and overall designs that I create for this project aims to inform the audience about the issue whilst having a positive impact on them- this was one of the initial ideas.

The publication would be available to 18-24 year olds in places where they have most access to such as University and Colleges. The publication could also be available when signing up to the campaign which could be linked through an Instagram account.

Ideas for the publication:

  • The publication will stick to the same colour scheme to create consistency and use one colour for each of the 4 areas (the same colours as the posters)
  • Ideas for publication title:

-The effects of social media
-Social media and its effects
-How social media effects you
-Social media? it's effecting you.

The publication has a section for each of the 4 areas of the issue:

  • Start with a title page (use the typography posters, similar design but tweaked slightly)
  • 2/3 Information pages within each section which give general information of the specific area to the issue...look back at all my research! include statistics, quotes, important information that will have an effect on the reader
  • One quote page relating to the issue area
  • An end page which consists of a symbol or illustration relating to the area. Keep it simple, something that the user will easily remember

Furthermore, the publication will have an introduction page in which it states the general 21st century issue and what the publication will consist of. It is important for publications to have an introduction page, but this needs to be short and snappy.

After the 4 issue areas are covered in the publication, the last couple of pages within the publication will contain information and advice about to overcome the issues/the alternative (aimed to have a positive impact on the reader).
