25 Links to Quiet Storm

5 Colours:

1. Champagne :Ben Fong-Torres of Rolling Stone called quiet storm a "blend of pop, jazz fusion, and R&B ballads—all elegant and easy-flowing, like a flute of Veuve Clicquot champagne."-  However, I have chosen to go with more of a yellow shade to represent champagne as it is more appropriate to the disco and upbeat side of the genre, the original champagne Pantone colour was too dull.
2. White: It was pioneered in the mid-1970s by Melvin Lindsey, while he was an intern at the Washington, D.C. Washington D.C is a very popular tourist attraction because of the White House.
3. Deep blue/Dark purple: The 1970s was the Disco era and glitter and shimmer were a must have for an evening or night out in town.
4: Pink: A lot of the songs throughout the playlist are soft, slow, soul songs based on love. The colour psychology of pink is unconditional love and nurturing.
5. Burnt Orange: America was now deep in a quagmire of war. People were suddenly in the visual mood for something more muted, contemplative and restrained. The faintly mournful "autumn" colour palette.

5 Symbols:

1. A peace sign/peace finger sign: During the 1960s in the USA, activists against the Vietnam War and in subsequent anti-war protests adopted the gesture as a sign of peace, this was carried through to the 70s as well.
2. Old fashioned radio/radio waves: Quiet storm is a radio format and a "super genre". The term quiet storm became a blanket term for mellow or soulful slow jams and smooth jazz of the sort played by radio programs influenced by Melvin Lindsey's format.
3. Moon: Relating to the colour choice of dark blue: "The Quiet Storm" when on the radio in the 70s, was at first, four hours of melodically soulful music that provided an intimate, laid-back mood tailor-made for late-night listening' the moon representing night time
4. Smiley Face: The classic Smiley arrived in the early 1970s, this was a common symbol which was used on t-shirts and badges. It was also known as 'the acid house symbol'
5. Disco Ball: To represent the disco era/feel that runs throughout Quiet Storm playlists. Also to play on the idea of dance and partying, disco balls were a popular interior accessory at parties in the 70s.
