Group Critique

Out of my 3 initial ideas for my app design, I have decided to go with the Shoe wardrobe app. This idea felt the most interesting and personal to myself, making it more exciting. Additionally when I discussed my initial ideas with people throughout this week, most preferred the shoe app idea over the others too.

The problem that the app would solve is not being able to decide which shoes to wear.
This app would be aimed at women that are indecisive on which shoes to wear to certain events/days out, as I often find myself stressing about which shoes to wear to certain places and with certain outfits, I feel like a lot of girls experience this problem, more than boys do. The app would contain pictures of all of the shoes owned by the user; the camera would be accessible through the app. The app would then automatically organise the shoes into certain categories to help the user to decide on a pair of shoes easily. The categories/folders would also be editable if the user feels that they are in the wrong category etc.

This morning I had a group critique in which I discussed all of this in order to gain feedback on how to move forward with this idea. My peers gave me a lot of interesting points to consider;
  • Think about the feature of being able to input outfits with the shoes; outfit suggestions for a pair of shoes based on the clothes you own
  • Clueless movie aesthetic
  • Stick to it being mainly for women as it applies more to them, the aesthetic will also be more focused and recognisable if its just for women
  • Psychology of men when it comes to shoes, would they consider using it?
  • Section of previous outfits that you wore with the shoes, when you're stuck
  • Everyone has their own profile on the app
  • Maybe think about little pop up ads; '20% off at Office Shoes!' It was agreed that this might overcomplicate though (including the real world) just keep it to the app maybe?
  • Market research; how will you bring in people? Shop partnerships/ discounts/community etc
  • Possible sub-cat: Take a photo of shoes you want and where they are
  • Consider the users shoe size, height etc because certain shoes might look better on smaller feet for example
  • The camera would have a lens on how to photograph the shoe; 'Place your shoes inside the box' (when you open the camera) as if you're scanning the shoe in. Encouraging good photography
  • If the image comes out blurry, the camera could give you a notification to take the picture again, and/or instructions for getting the correct angle/lighting etc
