Poster Initial Ideas

I have now started to create designs for the D&AD Durex competition using the research I have done over the past couple of weeks. For the campaign I want to create a set of 3-4 posters which promote 16-24 year olds to carry and use a condom.

The brief states that the campaign must:

  • 'galvanise 16 to 24 year olds across the world to stand up for their right to protect themselves'
  • 'make carrying, and using a condom the norm. Just like making a cup of tea or brushing your teeth'

For these posters, I decided to take my inspiration from the concept of making it the 'norm' like an everyday activity that everyone does. These were the first 3 quick posters that I created, one of the ideas uses a wallet, one uses just a condom and one uses the idea of tea.

Below shows 3 developed posters that I have created, all 3 ideas focus on things we do in our daily lives. Each poster contains the hashtag #Make it the norm, this hashtag is appropriate as it is short and snappy. The use of the same hashtag on each poster also helps them subtly link together. The bottom right corner also uses the Durex logo, this is often used on previous Durex ads and posters.

Each poster uses language/a sentence appropriate to the image.

The first idea focuses on the theme of making a cup of tea, the condom has been designed to look like a string tea bag. The other side of the string is the little card that allows you to take the tea bag out- the card uses the Durex logo with a statistic underneath which promotes the use of condoms; 'Consistent and correct condom use with new and casual partners is the best defence against STIs.' This poster uses the sentence 'Just like making a cup of tea'

The poster below focuses on the things that we take with us in our bags everyday; card, keys and ID, as I never find myself leaving the house without these things (sort of like a checklist). The condom has been photographed inside the wallet in order to communicate that a condom should also be one of the things that we don't leave the house without.

The poster below focuses on the concept of brushing your teeth as this is also something that we do everyday, it is one of the first things we do when we wake up. The condoms have been edited into the bristles. The poster uses the sentence 'don't forget to brush your teeth'

In order to develop these posters further, I am going to do actual photoshoots using a camera so that it is my own material and so that the quality of the images is high. This will require buying a few things before doing the photoshoots.
